What is Collagen?
A natural protein found in the human body, Collagen, is the main structural protein in connective tissues of animals that is located in fibrous tissues like tendon, ligament, and skin.
Why do I care?
Collagen is one of the body’s most important component of skin tissue that benefits all stages of wound healing. When introduced to wounds, the collagen forms a connective tissue matrix with the extracellular matrix (ECM) guiding fibroblasts (most common cells of animal connective tissue) in the right place as wound closure is stimulated and the healing process can occur. The protein is resistant against bacteria and infections keeping wounds sterile. For skin applications, collagen has the ability bind water maintaining the moisture level for hydrated skin. This feature improves the suppleness and texture of the skin immediately.
